ALWO KARBON and KARB Activated Carbon Filters

ALWO KARBON and KARB activated carbon filters are designed to reduce volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and odours in industrial air streams. Activated carbon retains gas-phase molecules by adsorption; it does not replace separate filtration of dust or liquid aerosols.

Applications may include emissions from paints, coatings, adhesives, solvents and selected hydrocarbons when the contaminant is compatible with the chosen carbon. Particle and droplet prefiltration is recommended to protect the adsorbent.

ALWO KARBON – activated carbon cartridges

The KARBON family uses cartridges containing activated carbon and is intended for individual equipment or low-to-medium airflow. The product range covers contaminated-air flow rates up to 15,000 m³/h.

ALWO KARB – activated carbon beds

The KARB family uses activated carbon beds and can be sized for larger airflow. The product range covers 15,000 to 60,000 m³/h. The construction supports controlled handling of larger carbon quantities, including loading and discharge into suitable containers or bags.

Correct system sizing

Airflow alone is not sufficient for selection. Required data include VOC composition and concentration, temperature, humidity, contact time, carbon mass and bed depth, pressure loss and the required service interval. Certain compounds may require impregnated carbon or a different treatment process.

Operation and safety

Saturated carbon no longer provides its designed adsorption capacity and must be replaced according to monitoring or a schedule based on calculations and operating experience. Spent carbon must be handled and disposed of according to the retained contaminants. Fire risk, exothermic reactions, solvent concentration and explosion limits require assessment for each process.
