Industrial Electrostatic Oil Mist Filters

ALWO electrostatic filters are solutions for capturing oil mist, machining-emulsion aerosols and fine particulate generated by selected metalworking processes. The configuration is determined by the contaminant, airflow, temperature and actual operating conditions.

Multi-stage filtration

A typical configuration includes two or more stages:

  1. metal prefilter, which retains coarse droplets and particles and protects the electrostatic cell;
  2. electrostatic cell, where particles receive an electrical charge in the ionisation section and are then attracted to the collector plates;
  3. optional final stage, including a HEPA filter where justified by the application requirements and system sizing.

System performance depends on aerosol size and composition, air velocity through the cells, contamination load, regular cleaning and equipment sealing. An efficiency figure must not be treated as guaranteed without a defined test method, filter class and operating conditions.

Operating benefits

  • reusable electrostatic cells that can be cleaned at defined intervals;
  • integration with prefilters and final stages selected for the process;
  • local configurations for one machine or centralised systems for multiple capture points;
  • options for filter-condition monitoring and airflow control.

Selection and maintenance

System sizing requires analysis of aerosol composition, concentration, temperature, airflow and solid-particle content. Cell maintenance must follow the manufacturer’s procedure, with the high-voltage supply disconnected and the equipment safely isolated. Accurate process and machine data are required to configure the correct solution.
