Pressurised Spray and Drying Enclosures with Water Curtain

ALWO pressurised painting enclosures with water-curtain filtration provide separate rooms for spraying and part drying, with mechanical supply and extract air. Pressure and temperature are controlled for the process, and incoming air is filtered before distribution.

Two process zones

The standard configuration includes a spray room and a drying room separated by a partition with glazed sliding doors. The enclosure is constructed from 40 mm polyurethane sandwich panels.

Main components

  • ALWO W30, W40 or W50 water-curtain extraction wall selected according to enclosure width;
  • water floor with metal grating and fill/drain valves, without water recirculation;
  • partition with two glazed sliding doors, each 1250 × H2400 mm, between spraying and drying;
  • glazed access doors measuring 2000 × H2400 mm for the spraying and drying rooms;
  • 1200 mm, 2 × 36 W, IP65 fluorescent luminaires, distributed along the enclosure;
  • 500 mm-high air-distribution plenum with ceiling filters selected for the required supply-air quality;
  • two vapour-extraction columns for the drying room;
  • two air-handling units, AHU 1 and AHU 2, for make-up air, filtration and heating;
  • PLC electrical and control panel with variable-frequency drive, temperature control, motor protection and timed sequences.

Wet overspray separation

The water curtain is intended to capture paint and coating particulate. It does not, by itself, remove solvent vapours or VOCs; exhaust and any additional treatment stages must be designed for the products being used. Water level and quality, pump, nozzles, internal passages, sludge and contaminated water require an operating and maintenance plan.

Sizing and compliance

Supply and extract airflow, differential pressure, temperature, drying cycle and VOC emissions must be calculated for the process. Hazardous-area classification, electrical equipment, earthing, fire/explosion protection and air discharge are project-specific; IP65 does not automatically provide ATEX compliance.
